Thomas Albert Sleight, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was born on April 24, 1946, in Kingsville, Texas. He passed away peacefully on November 7, 2024, in Corpus Christi, Texas, leaving behind a legacy that embodies warmth, humor, and resilience.
Thomas dedicated much of his professional life to the automotive industry, making a name for himself at Bill's Garage and later at service centers, including Walmart and Lowes. His knowledge and passion for cars were evident, but it was his light-hearted demeanor and ability to connect with people that truly defined his career.
A graduate of HM King High School, Thomas felt a strong call to serve his country and enlisted in the Air Force on April 26, 1966. His service took him from Wisconsin, where he met his beloved wife, to various locations including California, Denton Texas, Alaska, Fort Worth Texas, and Guam, before receiving his honorable discharge in 1973. These experiences shaped him into the strong-willed individual many admired, and he instilled the values of discipline and dedication in his family.
Thomas was a man of many interests, with a notably big heart. He was known as a friendly and outgoing figure—one who genuinely did not know a stranger. His strong-willed nature complemented his playful side, thriving under the guise of a jovial jokester. As a young man, he was captivated by the thrill of building and racing fast cars, a passion that fueled countless memories and friendships. In his later years, having embraced retirement, he found joy alongside his beloved wife in woodworking, crafting beautiful pieces that captured the essence of his creativity and love.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marjorie Sleight; his daughter, Bonnie (David) Utley; his son, James Walter (Yvonne) Sleight; eight beloved grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren, all who will cherish his memory and the values he imparted.
Thomas reunites in spirit with his parents, William Albert Sleight and Dorothy Clarice Cowan Sleight; his son, William Albert Sleight II; and his brother, Robert Wayne Sleight, who have all preceded him in death. Each of these individuals held a special place in his heart, and their spirits will continue to inspire his family as they navigate life’s journey.
A visitation will be held on November 12, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, located at 205 General Cavazos Blvd, Kingsville, Texas 78363. Friends and family are invited to come together to honor and remember a remarkable man whose life touched so many.
As we remember Thomas Albert Sleight, we honor a man who exemplified the beauty of family, friendship, and service to others, forever etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
