Sylvia E. Walkley passed away in The Woodlands, Texas and went to be with our Lord on Saturday, November 12, 2016. She was a former resident of Kingsville for 64 years. She was born on October 28, 1925 in Paris, Texas to Claudie and Ethel Robbins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert A. Walkey and brother Claudie and parents. Mrs. Walkley graduated from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas and taught English and elementary school in Blessing. She then married, and moved to Kingsville and taught 3rd grade in Robstown at Lotspeich Elementary School before accepting a teaching position in Kingsville where she taught elementary grades at Frederick Douglas, Harrel and Kleberg Elementary Schools for 31 years. Sylvia was a member of the First Baptist Church and was devoted to her two daughters, Regina and Carol. She enjoyed traveling to Colorado, Utah and California. Her passion was teaching children to read and was an avid lifelong Dallas Cowboy fan. She was an excellent cook and her recipes will remain in the family for generations to come. Sylvia enjoyed and loved playing the piano. Her memories will be cherished forever.
Survivors include two daughters, Regina (son-in-law Jerry) Coufal of The Woodlands and Carol (son-in-law Harold) Rauh of Sandy, Utah; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Public visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon Monday, November 21, 2016 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary. Graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2016 at Chamberlain Cemetery, Kingsville, and officiated by her grandson, The Reverend Bryan Villarreal of Augusta, Georgia.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
