Snake grew up in Eagle Lake, Texas, graduating high school in 1942. The following January, he joined the Navy, serving on the USS New Orleans through the end of WWII.
Immediately following, he entered Texas A&I University, joined Delta Sigs fraternity and graduated in 1949 with a BBA. It was there that he met and married Betty Joyce Ware in 1947.

In 1966, Snake solely founded the USS New Orleans Reunion Association. He and his shipmates continued to meet in cities across the US for the next 46 years, reminiscing about their WWII days aboard the ‘NOBOAT'.
An avid sports fan, Snake also played semi-pro baseball for the Texas A&I Collegians. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He was a past president of the Javelinas Booster Club and never missed a full season of Hoggie football in 72 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Joyce Wallace and second wife, Betty Sharon Wallace. Snake is survived by daughter, Linda Wallace Yeager of San Marino, California; son, Lance Wallace of Dallas, Texas; granddaughters, Mackenzie Yeager and Delaney Yeager of Los Angeles, California; and sons-in-law, Ed Yeager and John Mark Webb.
