Rozena Boyer

Rozena (Rosie) B. Lanford Boyer passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, 2017 at the age of 92. She was born on February 2, 1925 in Mangum, Oklahoma. Her family moved to Texas during the Dust Bowl era where she met and married the love of her life, Calvin L. Boyer. Rozena was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church for 39 years, where she was honored on multiple occasions as Woman of the Year. Rozena was employed as food service director at Texas A&I University and later at Delmar College until her retirement in 1985.

The Lanford family history will be carried on by the Daughters of the Six Sisters (DOTTS). Rozena spent her last weeks warmed by the Lanford Quilt. Each patch was stitched by her mother in 1955 and pieced together by her sister, Bernice Harvey and niece, Patricia Smith, in 1996.

It was family that brought Rozena the greatest happiness in this life.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Calvin, her parents, Elva and Zula Lanford, her sisters, Clara Loter, Jackie Herndon, Bernice Harvey, Attalee Miller and Essie Wetmore, one son-in-law Les Allday, and one grandson-in-law Lynn Hayes.

She is survived by her son, Gerald Boyer (Joleen) of Round Rock and daughter Wanda Boyer Allday of Kingsville. Eight grandchildren, Becky Bigbie, Chris (Jennifer) Boyer, Ken (Karen) Boyer, Glen (Lisa) Boyer, Sheri Hayes, Stephen (Laina) Schonefeld, Alyse (Kody) Baros, Calvin (Shannon) Schonefeld. Twenty-three Great Grandchildren: Jason Haggerton, Kelsey, Chad, and Craig Hayes, Austin Schonefeld, Ashtin Smith, Hailey and Hunter Schonefeld, Jenna, Ryan and Aaron Bigbie, Peyton, Chase and Clay Baros, Emma and Abbie Boyer, Benjamin, Zachary, Samuel, William, and Nathaniel Boyer, Luke and Drew Boyer, two great, great grandchildren, Zak Schonefeld and Baby Hayes. Also, very special in her life was Joan Dougherty Miller, affectionately known as the "utter" daughter and life-long dear friend, Nancy Ray.
