Roy Eugene Davis

Roy Eugene Davis, a veteran of the Vietnam War and longtime resident of Kingsville, passed away on June 1, 2023, with his wife by his side. Roy was born April 11, 1939, to Roland and Helen Irene (Hester) Davis and attended Oxford High School before enlisting in the United States Navy. As a Sailor, Roy saw action in Vietnam, and he had many amazing stories of his time in the service.

The U.S. Navy recognized Roy for his 20 plus years of honorable service with a Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, National Defense Medal, Battle “E” Efficiency Medal (2nd Award), Vietnam Service Medal and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Roy was the VFW District 6 Commander and the Quartermaster Adjutant for VFW Post 2375. Roy spoke a lot about his time in the Navy. He proudly marched in parades, attended funerals with the Honor Guard and was very active in the VFW, American Legion and a life member of the Military Order of the Cooties, Pup Tent #5.

Roy was preceded in death by his son, Dirk Ira Davis, and his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca, daughter Melodie (Walter) Johnson of Holdrege, Nebraska, step-daughter Jessica (Cole) Lewis of Winchester, Virginia and step-son Daniel Joseph Magill of San Diego, California, as well as four grandchildren, Jimmy, Benjamin, Lisa and Rylee, and seven great grandchildren. He sincerely admired his cousin Marie Danburg for her wonderful friendship throughout the years.

His family has organized a memorial service and viewing to honor Roy's life and military service, which will be held at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary on June 12, 2023, at 5:00 pm and interment at the Coastal Bend Veterans Cemetery on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roy’s honor to the American Legion, Ernest L. Anderson Post 99, 2502 E. Kenedy, Kingsville, Texas.
