Petra A. Garcia

Petra Amaya Garcia, born on March 21,1943 in Kingsville Texas to Arcadio Amaya Sr. and Josefa Orta Amaya, passed away surrounded by her loving family. Petra attended local elementary schools and H.M King High in Kingsville.

Petra met the love of her life Jose M. "Chema" Garcia Sr., while working at her parents' summer concession stand. They married on July 9, 1965, at St. Martin's Catholic Church and together they raised a family. She was a devout member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church.

A devoted homemaker, Petra found joy in caring for her family, cooking delicious meals, and creating a warm home. Her Spanish rice and enchiladas were family favorites. She had a green thumb and enjoyed tending to her plants and summer garden with her husband Joe. Petra lived on Yoakum St., where four of her siblings lived within a block or two, further embodying her commitment to both her nuclear and extended family.

Later in life, Petra proudly co-owned Joe Garcia's Quality Paint and Body Shop in Kingsville for nearly 17 years with her husband Joe, where both her daughter Delfina and son Albert worked alongside them.

Petra cherished spending time with her son Albert in her later years, traveling across South Texas and exploring various restaurants while he worked on his real estate business.

Petra is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Joe Garcia; infant son born in 1966; parents; in-laws, Maximilano and Julia Garcia; and siblings Cruz Amaya, Aurora Arguijo, Mary Lou Lopez, and Guillermo Amaya. She also loved caring for her only fur baby "Benji" who she cared for 11 years.

Among those left to cherish her memory are her children, Albert Garcia, Joe (Devonna) Garcia, and Delfina Garcia (Faustino Montalvo); siblings, Cristela Amaya, Arcadio Amaya Jr. (Vilma Amaya), and Reymundo Amaya (Elizabeth Amaya); brothers-in-law, Manuel Lerma, Jesus (Sylvia) Garcia; sister-in-law Rachel Amaya; grandchildren Michelle Trevino (April Pruneda), Richard Perez, Elyse Garcia, Mason Garcia, Aidan Garcia, and Ava Garcia; great-grandchildren, Vicente, Sofia, and Julian Moreno; and several beloved nieces and nephews who saw her as a second mother.

Petra's legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to her family will forever be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.

The family will receive condolences from 5:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00a.m. on Monday, July 15,2024, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church.
