Peggy Schurtz, 90, beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother was called to her eternal resting place on July 19, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. She entered this world on September 12, 1929 in Kingsville, TX, born to Travis and Mary Florence Mills. She is survived by her son Jerry Smith; daughter Janice Celaya; and son Robert Smith. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Courtney, Taylor, Tracy, and Lauren who loved her as their "Memom". Peggy's proudest moments were the arrivals of her great grandchildren: Hayden, Harper, Harrison, Corbin, Charlotte, and as she called them "the twins": Abigail, and Katherine.She was also loved by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two loving husbands, Robert Ronald Smith and Homer W. Schurtz. She was one of eight siblings. They are: Pansy Murchison (deceased), Richard Mills (deceased), Jim Mills (deceased), JoAnn Jumper, Mary McElyea, Dewey Mills, and Bob Mills.
She was a resident of Houston, Texas while married to her first husband, Bob Smith. After his death, she became Special Events Coordinator for the Houston Post and loved planning events such as the Science Fair and Chili Cookoff. The second half of her life was spent with the love of her life, Homer Schurtz, in Sweeney, Texas. They led a full life traveling, collecting Blue Ridge pottery, and loving their family. They never sat still until Homer's unfortunate illness that led to his untimely death.
She will be interred in the Kingsville cemetery and a celebration of her life will be held hopefully in 2021.
