Emma Pearl Vorwerk, passed away January 15,2017 in Humble, Texas. She was born June 21, 1922 to Paul and Lena Arend Vorwerk in the Richland Community between Manor and Pflugerville, Texas where she was baptized and confirmed in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Her confirmation verse was Romans 5 verse 8. She graduated as the Salutatorian from Pflugerville High School. She and her family moved to Driscoll, Texas in November 1940. She was joined in holy matrimony to Walter Anton Theiss at St. John Lutheran Church in Bishop, Texas on November 15, 1941. During their 71 years of marriage, they lived in Mission, Luby Field, Bishop, Harlingen, Santa Rosa, Donna, Corpus Christi and Humble, Texas.
Pearly was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was supportive Den Mother for the Cub Scouts in Bishop, volunteered in Valley Baptist Hospital and Good Samaritan Home, President of Bishop and Harlingen garden clubs, and crocheted caps for the military. She faithfully served her local churches: St. John Lutheran Church in Bishop, Faith Lutheran Church in Weslaco, and Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. She could be found teaching Sunday School, serving in many lay positions, helping with vacation bible school, playing the piano, and singing in the choir.
Pearly was a kind, patient, sweet lady who was a devoted to her family. She is survived by her son, Jimmy Theiss (Martha) and daughter, Betty McFarland (Weldon); grandchildren: Lena Nelms (Bart), Marley Kotch (Jimmy), Melanie McFarland, and Blake Theiss (Cathy); Great grandchildren: Ryan, Nate, and Maggie Nelms, Delaney and Tealey Kotch, and Parker, Beckham, Jett and Denver Theiss; sister, Arlene Vorwerk Petroski; sister in law, Moira Vorwerk; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pearly was preceded in death by: her husband, Walter Anton Theiss; son, Wayne Anthony Theiss; brother: Clifford Vorwerk.
Graveside services will be held at Restland Memorial Park located in Bishop, Texas at 2 pm, Friday, January 20, 2017.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Pearly's life will be held in Rosemont Assisted Living located at 6450 Kings Parkway, Humble, Texas 77346 on Saturday, January 28, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Corpus Christi, Texas or St. John Lutheran Church, in Bishop, Texas.
