KINGSVILLE - Patrick Michael Collins, 74, of Kingsville, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016 in the presence of his beloved family after a battle with cancer. Pat Collins was born February 8, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Patrick Michael and Mary Frances Collins. He is survived by Norma, his wife of 54 years.
Patrick was a Vietnam Veteran and proudly served 22 years in the United States Air Force, ultimately attaining the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Following his Air Force career, Pat served 25 years as an Air Traffic Controller at NAS Kingsville and Corpus Christi International Airport. To his friends, he was known by several colorful nicknames such as "CS" (air traffic control call sign), "Sarge", "Mr. C", "Red", "the Grinch", "tightwad", and "Archie Bunker". To his family he was lovingly called "Dad" and "Grandpa". His greatest joys were his faith, family, friends, the Bears and Cubs, hummingbirds, gardening, and the Lions Club Family. The Collins family would like to offer a heartfelt "thank you" to the many relatives, friends, neighbors, church family, Lions Club family, Dr. Morales and Nurse Laura Jimenez who visited during his illness and offered support.
Patrick is proceeded in death by his granddaughter Faith Rutherford and four sisters, Patsy Joiner, Mary Frances Collins, Kathleen Stringham, and Susie Bussema.
He is survived by one sister, Josie (Leonard) Pantaleo of Elgin, Illinois. Pat was a loving Father to Mary Kathleen Collins Harris of Houston, Patrick Joseph (Gina) Collins of Del Rio, Christine Ann (Brian) Sewell of Colorado Springs, and Susan Rutherford of Kingsville and proud Grandfather of Gary (Kelsey) Rule, Brianne (Sean) Sewell, Amanda (Adrian) Gomez, Kaylee (Patrick) Stoll, Megan (Bobby) Collins, Kevin Patrick Rule, and Hope Amber Rutherford, and extremely proud of his Great Granddaughter - Shiloh Grace Stoll.
The Family will receive friends Friday, August 19th at 6:00 PM at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary followed by a rosary at 7 PM. A mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 20th, 10 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Sarita, TX. A Celebration of Pat's life will be held also on Saturday, August 20th, 1 to 4 PM at the Salazar Building, 200 E. Richard Ave, in Kingsville.
