Owedia “Bo” Cordez Sthram Coufal, formerly of Kingsville and Mathis, died January 9, 2021. Bo was born to Roy and Henrietta Sthram in Hull/Daisetta Texas on July 16, 1932, the fourth of seven children. Bo graduated from Big Sandy High School in 1949 and enrolled in Nursing School. Shortly thereafter, she met Joe Coufal and the couple was married on July 28, 1951 in Reno, Nevada.
During Joe’s naval career they resided in Florida, California, Texas, and returned to Kingsville following his naval retirement. Upon Joe’s retirement from Celanese, Joe and Bo relocated to Mathis, Texas. Bo was involved in her church serving as an active Deacon’s wife (along with various other roles) at Retama Park Baptist Church in Kingsville, Ricardo Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church in Mathis.
Above all, Bo was a Mother: to her four sons, her grandchildren, their children, her siblings, her extended church family and neighbors, her classmates, and her community. She excelled at providing for and nurturing others.
Bo is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Joe and three of her siblings. She is survived by her four sons: Jerry (Regina) Coufal of the Woodlands, Texas; Mark (Scarlett) Coufal of Spring, Texas; Brian Coufal of Kingsville, Texas; and Paul (Kay) Coufal of Brenham Texas; one brother: Gurvis Sthram of Baston, Texas; two sisters: Eloise O’Connor of Irving, Texas and Dixie Lewis of Kountze, Texas; ten grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Interment and graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, January 15 at Chamberlain Cemetery in Kingsville, Texas.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd. Kingsville, Texas 78363.
