Onofre Garza

Onofre Pena Garza, age 92, a resident of Kingsville, Texas passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at his residence. He was born in Aldamas Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Onofre Garza Garcia and Julia Pena on April 16, 1928.

Onofre, his wife Ana Maria, and son Roberto came to the United States in 1953 in hopes of providing a better life for their children. They were able to see their hopes and dreams come to fruition as their children prospered. This was all accomplished by both, through hard work and dedication.

In the U.S. some of Onofre’s trades that he learned to do were working as a brick layer, tile work, industrial and general construction, carry deck operator, and his last job was custodian for Kingsville ISD. His part-time passions were working as a baker for C&C Bakery owned by one of his good friends and their family, Baldomero and Eliza Cavazos. He was also very involved with church activities for Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ana Maria, and both parents, brothers, Vidal and Gilberto Garza.

Onofre is survived by his brothers Manuel Garza of Reynosa, Mexico and Narce Garza Benavides of Comales, Mexico; two sons, Roberto (Hope) of San Angelo, Texas, Onofre (Claire) of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Maricella (Richard) Garcia of Falfurrias, Texas and Rosaelia (Tim) Burns of Peachtree, Georgia; his 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2020 at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Chamberlain Cemetery.
