Norma Nilda Martinez, 84, was received into the loving hands of our Lord on November 4, 2019 in Kingsville, Texas.
Norma was born on August 21, 1935 in Falfurrias Texas. She was the youngest of six siblings and the last living sister. She lived the early years of her life in Falfurrias, Texas and later moved to Kingsville where she lived all of her life.
Preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Catarina Rodriguez, her husband, Ernesto Luis Martinez, her brother, Rodolfo Rudy Rodriguez, sisters, Herminia Seymour, Adelina Gonzalez, Mary Rodriguez, and Marcelina Lopez.
Norma lived a full and beautiful life with most of her working life in retail. She first worked at the Saddle Shop, Ben Franklin and Perry’s; then after enjoying her children’s younger years at home, she returned to work at Walmart for 28 years until her retirement in 2011.
Until her decline in health, she was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church as a member of the Guadalupana’s organization and loved attending prayer meetings. One of her biggest joys was cooking a Sunday dinner to enjoy with the whole family after church.
Aside from her family, she found pride and joy in her home and especially in her yard where she could often be seen watering her plants and grass. She loved gardening and keeping her yard beautiful. She loved planting caladiums in the Fall and periwinkles and petunias in the Spring. Most recently she enjoyed attending La Paloma Adult daycare where she played bingo and loved spending time with friends.
Left to cherish her memories forever are her daughter, Katie and her husband Eli, and her son Ernie and his wife Adriana, her 6 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom loved and adored her. Luke, Brandon, Kaila, John David, Clarissa, and Kristen will grow up remembering how much their grandmother loved them.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 5p.m. – 9p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 10a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Chamberlain Cemetery.
