Nelda Fay Durbin Dunn born July 21, 1935, to Francis Lee Durbin and Bertha Garner Durbin passed away June 13, 2023, at the age of 87. She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Dunn and two sons Kenneth Dunn II and Alan Dunn and her son in law Ron Bowen. Nelda is survived by one son James (Delia) Dunn and her daughter, Janice Dunn Bowen as well as three grandchildren James Dunn II, Heather Dunn and Preston Bowen. She is also survived by four sisters, one brother, one sister-in-law and many, many nieces and nephews.
Nelda, also known as Aunt Fay, worked at the Riviera school cafeteria for over twenty years. Not only was she the cafeteria lady, but at home by constant request, she baked bread, cinnamon rolls and sugar cookies for family and friends. Our home and table served neighborhood children and those many nieces and nephews daily. She loved it.
Nelda loved working in her garden and growing flowers. She was a phenomenal seamstress and made countless barbie doll clothes for her daughter. In later years, when she could no longer get outside, she was an avid Hallmark movie watcher, even though, yes, they are reruns. As with most she was also a Yellowstone fan. Young or years gone by, she stayed a sports fan from never missing her son’s Riviera school games or the NFL and NBA on tv. She in fact watched the NBA playoff Monday night.
Nelda, Grandma, Aunt Fay, cafeteria lady, she was someone to everyone and kind to all. She lived in Riviera most of her life, from childhood, only moving for short periods during Kenneth’s Navy years and ultimately back to Riviera her last 58 years and she was exactly where she wanted to be both in location and in life. The proud mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
As she was simple in life she wanted a simple service. Graveside service will be held at Riviera cemetery on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. under the direction of Turcotte-Piper Mortuary. Flowers can be sent through The Flower Box in Kingsville, TX, however, she would prefer donations be made to Kerrville Hill Country Youth Ranch on their website https://youth-ranch.org or to the charity of your choice.
