Mildred Toney Guess, age 70, a resident of Bishop, Texas passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born February 19, 1944 in Newgulf, Texas to Daniel Webster Toney and Katie Zigo Toney. Mildred was a graduate of Boling High School. She was married to the late Judge Lawrence Guess. After his passing, Mildred completed his term as Justice of the Peace. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church, Bishop. Mildred served as a board member of the Bishop Cemetery Association and also served as secretary for the Boy Scouts of America for many years. She was employed with the Bishop High School as a guidance counselor secretary until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence Guess parents and sister, Sarah Toney.
Mildred is survived by one son, Darren Guess Shannon of Corpus Christi one daughter, Samantha Baker Darin of Bishop one brother, J.B. Toney Dorothy of Sagerton, Texas and four grandchildren, Leslyn Baker, Avery Guess, Mason Baker and Emily Guess.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, Bishop. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Bishop, with Rev. Clif Abshier officiating. Burial will follow in Bishop at Restland Cemetery.

Mildred was a loving wife, great mother, and super grandmother. She devoted her time and energy to being the best Nana ever. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and community.
