Mike Sanchez

Mike R. Sanchez, age 86, a resident of Kingsville, Texas passed away Monday, February 23, 2015 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Mike, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, was born April 2, 1928 and lost both parents by the time he was 16. He met his beautiful bride Ernestina Castillo at an early age and together they started a family and live a blessed life in Kingsville for the next 65 years. They have nine wonderful children: Gloria and Tony Rodriguez, Mike and Jackie Sanchez, Larry Sanchez, Danny and Lisa Sanchez, Howard Sanchez, John and Velinda Sanchez, Jackie Bujanos, Ernestina Pena and Brenda Tudon; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren and counting.
Mike had a tremendous work ethic and was involved in the community. He served our country in WWII, receiving the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He involved himself at St. Gertrude's, serving as an usher and working many fundraisers. He worked for H.E.B Food stores for over 27 years as the manager of their produce department. Upon retirement, he opened Mike's Café, where he cooked his way into the hearts of Kingsville residents for over 17 years. Mike loved being surrounded by his family and loved to entertain them on
Sundays with music, his BBQ and his laughter.
Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. There will be no procession from the funeral home to the church on Friday. Everyone is encouraged to gather at the church before the Funeral Mass. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Friday, February 27, 2015 at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church, Kingsville. At the conclusion of the Mass, military honors provided by the Veterans of Kleberg County Military Funeral Detail will take place outside of the church building.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
