Michael Wood, age 47 resident of Riviera, Texas went to be with our Lord January 25, 2016. He was born July 23, 1968 to Carl Ray Wood and Martha Ann Schneider in Arlington, Texas. Michael was a US Navy Veteran serving from 1988 to 1993 holding the rank of Quarter Master 2nd Class. He was awarded many Navy Unit Commendations. Michael had served in the Persian Gulf, Desert Shield, and Desert Storm aboard the USS White Plains Combat Stores Ship. After his honorable discharge he became a police officer with the Fallon, Nevada Police Dept. He later continued his law enforcement education where he attended Del Mar Regional Police Academy and received Top Academic and Top Shooter Awards. He was a former police officer with Taft Police Dept. and Taft ISD, Texas A &M University Corpus Christi Police Dept., He later became a detective with the Refugio Police Dept., Our Lady of the lakes University Police Dept. San Antonio, TX., He was last employed as a deputy sheriff with the Kleberg County Sheriff Dept., before his retirement. Michael will be greatly and sadly missed by those who loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents and his Uncle Urban F. Schneider
He is survived by his beloved family his brothers, Robert (Rhonda) Wood of Sandia, Edward (Trisha) Wood of Midland, TX, David Wood of Taft, TX, and Brian (Becky) of Kingsville, TX; three sister, Catherine (Louis) Apuzzio of Riviera, TX, Virginia (Damien) Scherpereel of Sugarland, TX and Valarie (Ralph) Enzenbacher of Riviera, TX.; aunt, Mary Harris of Kingsville, TX; uncles, Raymond (Eleanor) Schneider and Bobby Schneider both of Arlington, TX.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and great- Uncle.
Visitation will be held on Friday February 5, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Vattman, TX., a rosary will be recited that same evening at 6:00 p.m.. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Vattman, TX., with Michael's cousin Msgr. James Harris officiating services. Interment to follow in Vattman Cemetery with Military Honors.
