Merle G. Johnson, age 85, a resident of Kingsville, Texas passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014 in Kingsville. She was born February 9, 1929 in McCamey, Texas to Charles Merck Gray and Ida May Salter Gray. Mrs. Johnson was employed for 25 years as a Banquete High School Home Economics Teacher until her retirement. She was a member of Texas Teachers Retired Association, Alpha Lambda Chapter president of Delta Kappa Gamma and member of Kingsville Womens Club. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed being with her family and traveling with her sister Janis. She loved music and singing in the church choir. Mrs. Johnson was a volunteer at Christus Spohn Hospital Kleberg.
She is survived by two sons, Johnny Johnson of Orange Grove, Texas and David Viola Johnson of Kingsville one daughter, Carol Alan Tipton of Kingsville one sister, Janis Wood of Corpus Christi, Texas four grandchildren, James Altman of San Antonio, Texas, Tracy Saenz of Corpus Christi, Texas, Shirley Johnson Sebby of Canyon Lake, Texas and Sarita Johnson of San Antonio and eight greatgrandchildren.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the TurcottePiper Mortuary Chapel from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, Kingsville, with Rev. Jim Curran officiating. Burial will follow in Kingsville at Chamberlain Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Kingsville Building Fund.
