Maureen O'Brien, 78, passed away on December 31, 2023, in Corpus Christi. She was born to Dorothy and Ed O'Brien in Kingsville, TX on September 11, 1945. Maureen grew up in Kingsville with her sister Kathleen; and her grandparents living in the house across the street. From childhood, her singing talents were recognized and celebrated, with Maureen becoming a professional singer after graduating from Texas A&I with a degree in Music; and subsequently earning a Masters in Theater while performing with the Dallas Theater Center.
Maureen toured the world as a singer with the United Service Organization and won lead roles in productions of great musicals such as Oklahoma and My Fair Lady. She was a finalist in the Miss Texas pageant.
Maureen settled in Corpus Christi and founded O'Brien Advertising, by which she won numerous Addy awards from the American Advertising Federation. For decades, she could be heard singing lead and solo soprano in churches across South Texas, and she was especially known for her many stirring performances of O Holy Night on Christmas Eve at the First United Methodist Church in San Benito.
Maureen was a staunch supporter of the ASPCA, the Sierra Club, and Texas A&I. She served as President of the Texas A&I Alumni Association.
Maureen is survived by her sister, Kathleen Jordan Czarnowsky of San Benito; niece, Julie Otsuki; and nephews, Travis Jordan and Randy Jordan.
A graveside service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Chamberlain Cemetery, Kingsville, TX.
