Matthew Scott Emmons, 55, of Riviera, TX, passed away July 11, 2014 of heart failure related to his polycystic kidneys.
Matt was born to Glenn Gunta Brakmanis Emmons on January 6th, 1959 in Spokane, Washington. He was joined later by a sister, Erika.
Matt grew up active in the outdoors, sports, and church. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed all people.
Matt graduated from East Valley High School, receiving an appointment to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, along with an Academic Scholarship to Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA. He chose Gonzaga, later graduating from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.
Immediately after graduation, Matt moved to Houston where in 1986 met his soul mate, best friend, and wifetobe, Cherie Malin. They married in 1987.
On Thanksgiving 1997 they traveled to Cambodia to meet their new daughter, Kelly Jo, and returned in 1999 to bring their 2nd daughter, Krissa Lianne home. Matt adored his girls and the four of them were inseparable.
Eleven years ago Matt relocated his family to Riviera, to be close to family, and began working as a Comptroller for FESCO, Ltd. in Alice.
Matt loved God from an early age, and his mother knew one day he would serve the Lord as a pastor. Her prophecy came to pass as, while still working at FESCO, Matt took on the pastorate at Riviera Baptist Church.
For 10 years Matt participated in a National Polycystic Kidney study at the Denver Medical Center. His prayer was that one day there would be a cure for PKD.
Matt was active in the community coaching girls softball, organizing a community clergy group, and volunteering at the local food bank.
Matt is survived by his wife Cherie, daughters Kelly Jo and Krissa, his mother, sister, fatherinlaw, sisterinlaw, brothersinlaw, nieces, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Matt was preceded in death by his motherinlaw Marjorie Malin, and father Glenn Elliott Emmons, who also had PKD. The three are now in Heaven enjoying a reunion in the arms of their Savior, Jesus Christ.
