Marjorie Mooney

Joyce Mooney was born October 1, 1920 in Robstown, Texas the eldest of three children to Charles A. Hafer and Lillan L. (Holman) Hafer and passed away May 28, 2019.

She was raised at the family farm in Driscoll, Texas and moved to Kingsville in 1939 to study Home Economics at what was then Texas College of Art and Industries. She earned her degree in 1942. While at A&I Joyce met, fell in love with and married an Engineering student named C.V. (Van) Mooney. After his service in World War II and graduate studies at the University of Oklahoma, Joyce and family returned to Kingsville in 1947.

While raising their 5 children, Joyce was an art and kindergarten teacher at Epiphany Day School until 1969. She was also active in the First United Methodist Church, Women's Club, the Saturday Quilters, her Stitch and Bitch group, Sunshine Swimmers as well as bridge and supper clubs and was a season ticket holder for A&I Javelina football for more than 60 years.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and the love of her life, Van, as well as three of her children, a son-in-law and daughter-in-law: Cathi (Joe) Nash, Steve Mooney and Ray (Cindy) Mooney.

She is survived by her brother Charles (JoAnn) Hafer of San Angelo; two children, Jerry (Nancy) Mooney of Corpus Christi and Tricia Mooney of Kingsville; six grandchildren, Michael (Cynthia) Nash of San Antonio, Bodie (Michele) Nash of Round Rock, Van (Blake) Mooney of Kingsville, Jimmie Mooney of Kingsville, Cathy (Josh) Luetge of Houston and Philip Mooney of Corpus Christi; six great-grandchildren Cullen Nash, John Paul Sargent, Gannon Nash, Lily Nash, DeLainie Mooney and Case Mooney.

A Memorial Service honoring the life of Joyce will be held at the First United Methodist Church Community Life Center in Kingsville on Tuesday June 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.
