Maria F. Hernandez

Maria F. Hernandez passed away on June 18, 2023, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and love. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family and friends that will never be filled. Born in 1938, Maria lived a long and fulfilling life surrounded by family and love. She was adored by all who knew her for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication to her loved ones. Throughout her life, Maria had many interests and hobbies that brought her joy.

She was known for her gardening skills; everything she planted would grow. Maria loved playing loteria/bingo with her friends and family members; she was always up for a game or two, which brought laughter and excitement to those around her. In addition to games, Maria loved baking empanadas and pan de polvo—her recipes will be cherished for generations. Her loving hands seemed to infuse every pastry with warmth and love.

 But most of all, Maria loved being with family—especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took great pride in sharing stories about their accomplishments or listening to their dreams for the future. The bond between Maria and her family was incredibly strong; she brought love into every moment they shared together.

Maria will be missed dearly by everyone who knew her. Her gentle demeanor touched the hearts of many, leaving an indelible mark on all who met her. No amount of sorrow can express the magnitude of this loss for those close to her. May we always remember how she lived as we celebrate a life lived well.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Tomas Hernandez; parents, Aurelio and Josefina Flores; brothers, Eloy Flores and Antiero Flores; grandmother, Deiga Flores.

Among those left to cherish her memory are her children, Esteban Liandro Hernandez (Cylinda), Sandra Quintanilla (Daniel Mendietta), Tomas Luis Hernandez (Thelma), Elma Celia Hernandez, and Joe Henry Hernandez; siblings, Hilda Rinco, Blanca San Miguel, Anna Delia Carrera Flores (Uvado), and Adan Flores (Yolanda); 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive condolences on Friday, June 23, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. A Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
