Former King Ranch resident Margarita Arredondo passed away Monday, July 22, 2013, peacefully at home, surrounded by family and loved ones, in Roseburg, Oregon. She was 94 years old.
She was born in Camargo, Mexico, on March 25, 1919 to Victoria De Luna Acevedo and Daniel Acevedo of South Texas. On May 16, 1936, at St. Martins Catholic Church in Kingsville, Texas, she married Jose T. Arredondo. Together they lived on the King Ranch and raised four sons. Both Margarita and Jose were very proud and active church members. She was a member of the Columbian Ladies Auxiliary. Margarita loved sharing stories with her family about her years growing up on the King Ranch, and her experiences as a young Kineo wife and mother. She delighted in sharing recipes with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, and passing on and preserving her beloved traditions. She loved music, dancing, and reading. She delighted in maintaining close ties with her many friends. One of her most memorable moments apart from family was in 1992 when she met Mother Teresa in the Rome airport and received a rosary from her.
Survivors include sons, Hector Jan of Hacienda Heights, California, Jose Arnoldo Maria of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Roel Tina of Roseburg, Oregon grandchildren, Montiel Hancock, Andre Arredondo, Nelda ArredondoParker, Arnoldo Arredondo, Melissa Arredondo, Ben Arredondo, Monica Wolfe, Marco Arredondo, Ana Polson, Jose Javier Arredondo, Daniel Arredondo, Lucas Arredondo, Victoria Arredondo and Margarita Arredondo. Margarita is further survived by eight greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved and cherished.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jose, on November 6, 2006, and her eldest son, Valdemr, on March 15, 1983, and her brother, Daniel Acevedo.
Visitation will take place after 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2013, at the TurcottePiper Mortuary Chapel. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2013, at the TurcottePiper Mortuary Chapel. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013, at St. Martins Catholic Church. Burial of cremains will follow in Kingsville at Chamberlain Cemetery.
