Louise Kampfhenkel (90) was born to Hiram A. Koontz and Permelia Houston Koontz in Riverside, California on May 22, 1925. Her earthly journey ended in Katy, Texas on December 15, 2015.
Louise spent much of her youth in Arkansas, but returned to California during World War II where she worked as a welder in the ships yards in Los Angeles. She married Archie Tucker in 1942 and they had two children. After being widowed in 1947 she moved to Bishop, Texas. She married Harvey Kampfhenkel in 1950 and they had two children. They raised their children in Bishop and parented their blended family well. The family attended St. Paul Lutheran Church where Louise served as Sunday school secretary for several years. Having grown up during the Great Depression, she was determined to do well and have a cohesive family. Louise worked as a bookkeeper for International Harvester in Bishop and Driscoll Co-Op Gin before retirement in 1985 after which she and Harvey moved to Corpus Christi. She moved to Evergreen Cottages in Katy after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
Louise is survived by Harvey, her husband of 65 years, her children, Ernie Tucker of Lubbock, Texas, daughters Sharon Ferm and Sandra Meador of Rosenberg, Alfred Kampfhenkel (Tina) of Katy, brothers, Hiram Koontz of Tulsa, OK and Walter Koontz of Lakeland, OH, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her parents and her sister, Clara, preceded her in death.
Louise was an avid collector of all things vintage and enjoyed decorating for the seasons, crocheting, embroidering, and cooking. She was industrious and thoughtful and loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered as a person who spread seeds of creativity, love, hope and kindness.
Viewing will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bishop on Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. with services immediately following. Burial will be at Concordia Cemetery.
