Lester L. Mayberry Jr., 70, a resident of Bishop, Texas passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born Aug. 30, 1945, in Kingsville. He attended H.M. King High School before entering the U.S. Air Force. He served with the Air Commandos while stationed in Laos during the Vietnam War. He spent the majority of his life in law enforcement, proudly serving as Chief of Police in Bishop for 6 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Mayberry; mother, Vesta Henderson; stepfather, John Henderson; and sister, Linda Riel.
Lester is survived by his wife of 41 years, Debra; two sons, Michael (Camille) of Kingsville and Philip (Kim) of Round Rock; and brother, Floyd (Kathie) of Houston. Lester also had seven grandchildren, who called him "Pops".
Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2015 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Clif Abshier and Rev. Jack Willoughby officiating. At the conclusion of the memorial service, full military honors provided by the Veterans of Kleberg County Funeral Military Detail will take place outside of the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Lester's memory to the American Heart Association or Driscoll Children's Hospital.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
