Leona Meyer

Leona "Lonie" Annie Meyer was born November 28, 1927 to Paul and Mary Meyer (nee Schroeder) in Coupland, Texas. She returned home to her Heavenly father on February 5, 2018.
Leona spent a majority of her life in the Kingsville/Ricardo area. She grew up on a small farm near Ricardo with her family including her sister and brother. During the summers, she learned the merits of hard work as she handpicked cotton with her family as well as caring for the family's livestock. During her late teen years into early adulthood, she served as a candy striper (hospital volunteer).
On Aug 8th, 1947, she married the love of her life, Earl Meyer, at Trinity Lutheran Church where she was an active member for many decades serving on the Women's Guild and as church custodian with her husband who tended the church grounds. Leona also worked for Kingsville I.S.D. for almost 30 years where she started as a dishwasher and worked her way up to Cafeteria Manager at Memorial Middle School. She retired in 1990. They lived in Kingsville their entire marriage and raised 3 children together.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl; an infant son, Craig Justin Meyer; her sister, Alice Marie Meyer; son-in-law's, Mark Smith and Charles Colson; and her parents, Paul and Mary Meyer.
She is survived by her brother, Edward Meyer (wife, Joyce) (Ricardo, TX); her son, Robert Meyer (Lenexa, KS); and two daughters, Marlene Colson (Dickinson, TX) and Brenda Smith (Corpus Christi, TX); sister-in-law, Margie Meyer of Round Rock, TX; as well as five grandchildren: William, Michael, and Matthew Colson; Zach and Sarah Smith; and their spouses including nine great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pall bearers will be William Colson, Michael Colson, Matthew Colson, Zach Smith, Jeremy Meyer, and Ryan Balsaldu.
Visitation will be held at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary in Kingsville, TX on Friday Feb 9th, 2018 from 5-7pm. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 10th, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 401 W King Ave, Kingsville, TX with final burial at the family plot in Chamberlain Cemetery in Kingsville, TX.
