Larry Spearman was born to Ophelia Roberts and Irving Spearmon on October 6, 1944, at Michael Reese Hospital, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the eldest of five boys, and was by all accounts, a protector, provider, and friend from the beginning. He spent the formative years on his grandmother, Margie Flanders’, farm in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, where he would develop a life-long appreciation of the outdoors, as well as his work ethic.
After his grandmother’s death, he returned to Chicago, and his brothers, who dubbed him with the nickname Errol Flynn, after he dropped his jacket into a puddle for a girl walking by at the time—he never lived it down. In 1962, he reported to NAS Kingsville, for service in the United States Navy. He served until 1966, when he received an honorable discharge, and began life as a civilian.
He moved to Bishop, started a family, a successful small business, and became known for his skills in the kitchen, as well as his infectious grin. His full-time pursuits were raising six children and working for Nueces County. In his spare time, he spent countless hours perfecting baking recipes, as well as barbecue techniques, with his friends and family. Larry was also known for his love of music, fishing, and good company. Many a weekend was spent playing dominoes and swapping stories with those fortunate to be considered friends, always accompanied by a soundtrack of smooth jazz, reggae, and blues.
After approximately 20 years, he decided it was time to come down from the saddle, and retired from Integrity Industries. His goal was to enjoy his time doing what he loved with the people who loved and cared for him, so he bought a boat, a “fishing truck,” and hit the water.
On 25 May, our Lord and Savior called him home, to be reunited with his mother and brothers. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Henrietta Spearman, five daughters: Dolores (Charles) Parker, Denise Thomas, Kimberly Spearman, Beverly (Sylvester) Henderson, and Michelle (Richard) Butler, as well as two brothers, Steven Maxwell and Irving Spearman Jr, and many grandchildren
