June Cannon

June Bayliss Cannon, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away October 12, 2024, at the age of 93. She was born June 20, 1931, in Hawthorne, California to Samuel J. Bayliss and Katherine Bareis Bayliss. She moved to Kingsville, TX with her parents and two brothers at the age of 5 and settled east of Kingsville in the San Fernando community. She attended San Fernando school and graduated from H.M. King High School.

She met and married Robert W. Cannon, January 20, 1951. She worked for civil service at NAS Kingsville from 1951-1953 as telephone operator and then worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for the next sixteen years. In 1969 she and her husband built and operated a mobile home park on part of their property. She managed that property until May of 2024.

June was actively involved in the fundraising for Ricardo Elementary School for over 70 years helping to make tamales and enchiladas for the school’s fall festival and running the concession stand for the athletic department until 2019. She was a huge supporter of 4-H and FFA participating as a club leader and volunteer in many capacities. She sold popcorn at the Junior Livestock show each year and divided the proceeds between Kingsville, Riviera and Academy FFA clubs. She supported and attended all the sports events her children were involved in during their school years and then continued to support and attend events for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would offer her time and popcorn for other fundraisers in the community when needed. She played women’s softball in the community until she was in her mid 70’s. Through her church she helped feed the BSU students. She was member of the Kingsville Womens club for many years participating in their fundraisers. She was a cancer survivor and participated in the annual cancer walk for numerous years. She liked all kinds of sports and being outdoors.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel J. and Katherine Bayliss, her husband, Robert W. Cannon, her daughter, Lynn Nollkamper, son-in-law, Lonnie Robisheaux, grandson, Jonathan Schonefeld and great granddaughter, Ella Del La Rosa.

 She is survived by her children, Lisa Schonefeld of Kingsville, Lindell (Carol) Cannon of Kingsville, son-in-law Wade Nollkamper of Salida, Colorado, Lois Robisheaux of San Antonio, Lewis (Laurie) Cannon of Kingsville and Lee (Lesli) Cannon of Kingsville. Grandchildren Jerrell (William) Diaz, Alyssa(Jonathan)Schonefeld, Tyler (Kelly) Cannon, Baylie (RJ) De La Rosa, Katie (Dawson) Williamson, Suellen (Bobby) Munguia, Travis (Gina) McGee, Michael (Geri) Robisheaux, Collette (Jim) Rye Kunau, Cassie Cannon, Dallas Cannon, Patience (Trey) Wiggins, Austin Cannon, Savanah Cannon, Wyatt Witt, Maddie (Henry) Witts and Porter Witt, 16 great grandchildren, 4 great great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Ricardo Athletic department, Kleberg-Kenedy 4-H clubs through the Extension Service, Kingsville, Riviera or Academy FFA clubs or the American Cancer Society.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 18, 2024, from 5-7 pm at Turcotte Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024, at First Baptist Church Kingsville at 10 am. Burial to follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.
