Juan Lozano

Juan Gualberto Lozano Sr. passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025. He was born in Kingsville, Texas on July 12, 1931, to Erasmo G. Lozano and Anita (Barbour) Lozano.

Juan graduated from H.M. King High School, Class of 1950, and attended Texas A&I College before joining the United States Air Force. He was stationed in multiple locations including Biloxi, Mississippi and Tacoma, Washington before serving a two-year tour in Germany.

After serving in the Air Force, Juan continued in his career path as an electronics technician for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), working on radar systems at the Corpus Christi International Airport, NAS Corpus Christi and NAS Kingsville. He was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Kingsville, Texas and was a 4th Degree member, serving as Grand Knight in St Martin’s Knights of Columbus (KC) Council 2623. Juan enjoyed being active, serving as Council District Deputy for several terms. He also devoted countless hours to the KC’s mission in support of St Martin’s church, school and other civic related activities. He enjoyed golf throughout his adult life and was one of the first hispanics to become a member of the Kingsville Country Club. He and his wife, Soila were involved in the Sembradores de Amistad, Columbianas, and other service organizations within the community.

After his retirement from the FAA, he enrolled in college, earning a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree from Texas A&I University, Kingsville in May 1987. Juan worked tirelessly for the betterment of the community and our educational system. He served as president of the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) for St Martins Catholic school and worked in recruitment and placement for the Youth Opportunity Unlimited (YOU) program at Texas A&I University where he recruited and placed migrant students in job openings.

Juan is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Soila (Hinojosa) Lozano; his eldest son, Juan Gualberto Jr.; his daughter, Margarita Salinas; as well as his siblings and parents.

Juan is survived by his sons Federico (Fred) (Susan) Lozano, of Edinburg, Texas, Ernesto (Ernie)(Del) Lozano of Chula Vista, California, Alberto (Albert) (Stacy) Lozano of Houston, Texas, and Dr. Jeffrey (Roxann) Lozano of Kingsville, Texas; Son-In-Law Luis Salinas; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A holy rosary will be recited in his honor starting at 12:45 p.m. on April 16, 2025, at St. Martin Catholic Church, with a memorial mass to follow at 1:30 p.m. A rite of committal and interment will follow at Chamberlain Cemetery.
