Jose "Chema" M. Garcia, 71, lifelong resident of Kingsville, died Sept 11, 2016 in Houston, Texas surrounded by his family. He was born Sept 16, 1944 in Rancho Plomo, Santa Gertrudis division of the King Ranch in Kingsville, Texas. In 1965, he married Petra Amaya and they started a family.
Joe was a proud veteran and served in the Texas Army National Guard for approx. 7 years (1963-1970). He started his career at the age of 17 and worked for K.A. Childs Motors for 34 years. Joe was an auto body tech and later the body shop manager for 24 years. In 1998 he opened his own business, Joe Garcia's Quality Paint & Body shop, and continued to serve his customers for another 16 years.
In 2014 he retired from his business and enjoyed spending time with his wife and family while camping, fishing, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, helping anyone that asked and tending to his yard. Joe was an active member and volunteer at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Maximilliano G. and Julia S. Garcia; and two brothers, Domingo Servando Garcia and Urbano Gilberto Garcia Sr.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Petra A. Garcia; his son, Albert Garcia, son, Joe and wife Devonna Garcia, daughter, Delfina and husband Esteban Gonzalez; as well as six grandchildren, Michelle, Richard Ray, Elyse, Mason, Aidan and Ava.
Joe is also survived by his two brothers, Jesus and wife Sylvia Garcia, and Daniel Arnoldo Garcia; and one sister, Maria Teresa and husband Juan Garcia. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2016 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Thenan as celebrant. Burial will follow with full military honors provided by the Veterans of Kleberg County Military Funeral Detail in Kingsville at the Santa Gertrudis Cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
