Jose Angel Escobar, age 76, a resident of Kingsville, Texas passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at his residence. He was born October 2, 1940 in Starr County, Texas to Santos L. Escobar and Casiana Perez Escobar. Jose Angel graduated in 1961 from Freer High School. He was a Freer Buckaroo All-District and All-State Fullback in 1959. He was employed by Exxon from 1979-2003. Joe loved spending time at home doing yard work and barbecuing for his friends and family. He was very active and if something needed to be done, he always got it done. He enjoyed playing poker every Tuesday and having breakfast with his friends on Fridays. On Sundays, during football season, you could find him sitting in front of the TV watching and cheering for his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. He will be missed by his family and all his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Santos L. Escobar and Casiana Perez Escobar; sister, Elva E. Pena; and brother, Ricardo Israel Escobar.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Sonia Jaramillo Escobar; children, Jose Ricardo Escobar, Roel A. Escobar, Celeste Escobar Pavelka (David) and Adrian Javier Escobar; grandchildren,
Kristina Escobar, Alex Escobar, Cristian Escobar, Adriel Escobar, Ronan Escobar, Liam Escobar, Rafael A. Escobar and Nicholas Pavelka; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Public visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2016 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2016 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2016 at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church, 1120 South 8th Street, Kingsville, with Fr. James Stembler as celebrant. Graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2016 at the San Diego Cemetery, San Diego, Texas.
Active pallbearers will be Cristian Escobar, Adriel Escobar, Ronan Escobar, Rafael Escobar, Carlos Pena and Ruben Edward Escobar.
Honorary pallbearers will be Noe Pena, Gilberto Uribe, Jr., Rufel Serna, Ruben Escobar and Armando Gonzalez.
