Joan Hinojosa, longtime resident of Kingsville, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born on May 17, 1936, and raised in East St. Louis, Illinois, Joan carried with her the strength, warmth, and resilience of her Midwestern roots throughout her life. She later made Kingsville her home with her beloved husband, Emede. There, she spent many years sharing her love of cooking and baking with those around her.
Joan especially cherished her time working in the cafeteria at St. Gertrude’s Catholic School. The children looked forward to her famous Enchilada Day, and her baking was equally unforgettable—her Black Magic Cake and Carrot Cake were always in high demand.
In her free time, Joan found joy in watching old John Wayne and Audie Murphy westerns, reading books, and quietly spending time at the library. She was also a gifted crafter, known for the beautifully detailed Christmas ornaments she made from salt dough.
Joan is preceded in death by her husband Emede and her parents, Evan and Edna Evans. She is survived by her only son, Mandy Wade, and two granddaughters, Amanda and Clarissa.
A private funeral service will be held for the immediate family. May she rest in peace.
