Jim Ira Mills, 89, died Monday, November 9, 2015 at home, following a brief illness.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Wanda Pritchett Mills.
He is survived by his daughter Laura Mills Harrison (John) and his son Jim Ira Mills, Jr.; five grandchildren, Heather Harrison Hall (Jason), Lauren Harrison, Katherine Harrison, Jim Ira (Trey) Mills III, Jacob Cameron, and two great grandchildren Harrison Hall and Mills Hall.
The son of Travis and Florence Mills, he was born in Alfred, Texas and was raised in the Ricardo area. A graduate of Kingsville High School, he served in the Army, in the Pacific during World War II.
After returning from service and marrying, he and his wife moved to Mexico where he worked in Tecalitlan, as a livestock inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Each week he rode by horseback into the mountains inspecting and vaccinating cattle. A lifelong farmer and rancher in South Texas, he worked for 38 years for the Frank McGill family at the Santa Rosa Ranch and as foreman of the Encinitos Ranch.
He owned his own farming operation, El Perdido Farms, for over 38 years.
Funeral services will be at Turcotte Piper Funeral Home in Kingsville, Texas, at 10:30 am Saturday, November 14, 2015, followed by graveside services at Resthaven Cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
