Jilma Vidaurri

Jilma Guevara Vidaurri was born in Benavides, Texas on November 3, 1932. She passed away in her sleep on November 25, 2020. She was married to Ildefonso Quinones (I.Q.) Vidaurri for 58 years. She was a retired educator who graduated from Texas A&I University with a BBA in Home Economics Education and a Master’s Degree in Counseling- at a time when Hispanic women were discouraged from pursuing higher education. She began her career at Cunningham Jr. High in Corpus Christi, Texas before transferring to the Kingsville Independent School District as a teacher and counselor at Memorial Jr. High and H.M. King High School. A civil leader for many years, she served as a school board member of KISD for many years where she served with passion to assure fairness and equality for all students and employees. As a member and officer of the El Dorado Club she inspired many students, helping them pursue their education by providing college scholarships. She will be remembered for designing and creating intricate dresses for the El Dorado Debutante Balls, as well as for weddings and special events. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter-in-law, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alvaro Guevara and Jilma R. Guevara; her husband, I.Q. Vidaurri; her son, Hector Vidaurri; and grandson, Robert Rodriguez.

Jilma is survived by her daughter, Nelda Rodriguez (Rene); son David Vidaurri (Victoria); grandchildren, Marissa Vidaurri, Kristi Vidaurri, Kate Rodriguez Treiber, and Savannah Bowman; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Blasita Flores and Jovita Carrillo; brothers, Alvaro Guevara, W.R. Guevara and Gabriel (Yolanda) Guevara.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, with the funeral service to begin at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
