Jesus M. Gonzalez, 93, a beloved husband and father passed away peacefully in Corpus Christi, Texas on November 6, 2024.
He was born on August 20, 1931, in Falfurrias, Texas to Ventura Gonzalez Sr. and Irene Chapa.
Jesus served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he received a Bronze Star and three additional medals. He then worked in construction for the next 40 years. He was employed by Brown and Root and by Arthur Brothers for the last 35 years. He loved to go deer hunting and enjoyed watching wrestling. After he retired, he spent the next 30 years of his life fixing weed eaters, lawn mowers, tractors, and other small engines. He was fondly nicknamed, “Mr. Sanford” because his backyard was full of machines and motors that he used for parts to fix the engines that were brought to him by his friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Marcia Gonzalez, who passed in June 2024. They used to sit and watch the western channel and dote on their dog, George, who was referred to as “The Champion”. George passed away a day after Jesus at the age of 23. He is also preceded by three siblings, Celia Villarreal, Anita Garcia, and Ventura Gonzalez Jr.
Jesus is survived by one sister, Maria Elicia Gonzalez of Kingsville, Texas; four children, Jesus M. Gonzalez Jr. (Irma) of Kingsville, Diana Arizpe (Carlos) of San Antonio, Roel Gonzalez (Cecilia) of Kingsville, and Linda Ortega (Jose) of New Braunfels. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM followed by the Holy Rosary at 9:30 AM. A memorial service will begin at 10:00 AM at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary with a burial to follow at Chamberlain Cemetery in Kingsville, Texas.
Jesus will be remembered for his love of wearing baseball caps and greeting everyone with a big smile as they approached him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
