Jane Leeke, a beloved member of Kingsville community and a dedicated healthcare professional, passed away on December 24, 2023, at the age of 72. Born on March 31, 1951, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Jane's journey was marked by her immense contributions to the medical field and her warm character that touched the lives of countless individuals.
After graduating from Southeast H.S. in Lincoln in 1969, Jane pursued her passion for healthcare. She attended Texas A&I and technical college before obtaining her certification in phlebotomy in 1987. From 1975 to 1987, she served as a laboratory technician for Kleberg County Hospital, home healthcare services, and Dr. Earl Gaston. In 1987, she began working as a phlebotomist for Dr. L.E. Ramey and Spohn Kleberg Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 2002.
Jane's dedication to her work went beyond the technical aspects; she loved meeting people through her profession and took the time to know them personally. Her genuine interest in others allowed her to forge meaningful connections and create lasting memories for those around her. Known for her wit and charm, Jane brightened even the most challenging days with her infectious ability to keep things light. Her humor and wit will be forever remembered fondly by those who were lucky enough to witness the "blood sucker" in action.
Outside of work, Jane cultivated a variety of hobbies and interests. She had a remarkable talent for art displayed through her mesmerizing pen and ink drawings. Additionally, she possessed an impressive skill set in carpentry—a testament to her creativity and determination. Jane also had a deep appreciation for horses which provided solace and joy throughout her life. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kingsville, TX, where she raised her voice to lift spirits with the church choir, and faithfully reminded anyone who lent an ear "FROG": fully rely on God. Her love for meeting people extended far beyond the walls of hospitals and churches as she cherished every opportunity to connect with others.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Richard Leeke and Rose Haas Leeke. She is survived by her partner James B. Luker, Jr., and her siblings Richard Leeke, John Leeke, and Judy Leeke Marx along with their respective families. Jane's warm and compassionate nature extended to her nieces, nephews, and numerous extended family members who will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.
A funeral service to celebrate Jane's life will be held on January 27, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church located at 302 W Kleberg Ave, Kingsville, TX, beginning at 11:00 AM. The event aims to provide a heartfelt tribute to a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many.
Jane Leeke's legacy as a healthcare professional and a compassionate individual will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her unwavering dedication and genuine interest in others embody characteristics that we should all strive to emulate. May she rest in peace knowing that she made a significant impact during her time with us.
To honor Jane's final wishes, contributions and donations are asked to be directed to First Presbyterian Church, as Jane saw her fellow church and choir members as family.
