Marjorie Jane Trant Dodds lost her valiant battle with cancer on April 15, 2016 in Kingsville. She was born April 9, 1953 in the Kleberg County Hospital.
Jane graduated from H.M. King High School in Kingsville and from Texas A&I University where she received a BS Degree in Home Economics. She taught school at Sarita Elementary and also had a long and devoted relationship with members of the King Ranch Family.
Jane married Raymond Scott Dodds in Sarita, Texas in 1977, and they lived their entire married lives in Ricardo, Texas.
Jane was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Jane Dodds; and parents, Don and Marjorie Trant. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Scott Dodds; and son, Edwin "Ed" Dodds of Seattle, Washington. She is also survived by her siblings, Sandra (Dennis) Nietenhoefer of Southlake, Texas and Donny (Pam) Trant of Kingsville; her mother-in-law, Betty Rachal of Fredericksburg, Texas; brothers-in-law, John Dodds and David Dodds, both of Fredericksburg; as well as several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many loved family and friends.
Jane enjoyed shooting her shotgun including trap and skeet, and was an avid bird hunter. She especially enjoyed her many trips to Argentina and all her friends there. She was an accomplished cook receiving a certificate for having completed the Boot Camp from The Culinary Institute of America in Albany, New York. Additionally she was an award winner at The Kleberg County Livestock Show for her needlework.
Jane as an enthusiastic supporter of the Javelina Nation and on many occasions opened her home to share delicious food and create wonderful memories with administrators, faculty, staff and student athletes. She was affiliated with the President's Circle, President's Legacy Ball Steering Committee, Marc Cisneros Center for Young Children Advisory Council, and Javelina Booster Club, for which she serviced as Fundraising Coordinator of the Annual Silent Auction and was also a part of the Javelina Football Sack Club. Jane's homemade hot sauce was a much sought after item by many that knew her.
Her community involvement included the Brahma Booster Club, the Womens Club of Kingsville, the South Texas Charity Weekend, and the American Cancer Society.
Jane always made time for others and enjoyed welcoming all to her home. The family would like to especially thank the caregivers who provided outstanding and compassionate care to Jane during her final days. They are Melissa Rochester, Joyce Burse, Edna Alvarado, Rachel Henderson, Mariavel Orenteria, Jessica Lopez, Ester Garcia, and Jeanette Rabio. They were all wonderful.
A private burial service will be held followed by a Celebration of Jane's Life at the Henrietta Memorial Center, 405 North Sixth Street, Kingsville, on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The family welcomes all who would like to join in the celebration.
Jane's wishes were that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be given to The Kingsville Garden Club Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1123, Kingsville, Texas 78364.
