With profound sadness, the family of James Garrett announces his peaceful passing on January 17, 2025, at the age of 70. James was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
James Garrett was born on December 19,1954, in Kingsville, Texas, to loving parents John I. and Evelyn Garrett. James grew up in a family of 10 children. He attended Bishop High School.
After graduating high school in 1973. He, like his brothers, worked in the Oilfield most of his life. He was known as Psycho by his family in friends. "He danced to his own music" while working up in the derricks of the oil rigs.
James Garrett's legacy is that of compassion. He touched the lives of many throughout the community of Bishop and Kingsville. He enjoyed Old Thyme music, movies, playing cards and fishing, but mostly helping people. Although he did not have much, James helped anyone that needed help. Whether it was giving them a ride to the doctor, food bank or grocery store, or just simply giving them a place to rest for the night. His unwavering generous spirit will be remembered and cherished by all who have had the privilege of knowing him.
James is survived by his wife, Brenda Garret and 5 children. Mary Lynda (James) Allen, Granddaughter Dayna Allen (Evan Reid) and Great Grandson Liam Allen-Reid, Grandson Tristan Allen, Granddaughter Farrah Allen. Son Robert Garrett and Grandson Brody Garrett. Son Jason Garrett and Daughter Aimee Garrett Hyde, Granddaughters Rebecca, Katherine and Gweneth Hyde and Daughter Amanda Garrett most of Goliad, Texas. He is also survived by his sisters, Evelyn (Jack) Caughman of Bishop and their children Shawn (Ashley) Hoagland, Son Asher Hoagland, Sheena (John) Barrera, Daughter Kaylee and Son Elliott of Kerrville, Texas, Scarlett Myers of Greenfield, Indiana, Jacob Caughman of Bishop and Danny Caughman of Austin. His sister Linda (Leslie) Hancock Jr. of Elliot Texas. His sister Donna Stone of Holt, Michigan and her children, Aubrey, Vicki and David. And many more nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
He is preceded in Death by his Mother Evelyn Lambert Garrett, his Father John I. Garrett and his brothers John D. (Baldy), Tom (Fat Boy), Keith (Tex), Lewis, Douglas (Blondie), and Kelly Garrett.
A memorial service to celebrate James Garrett's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Evelyn Caughman to help pay for his services.
James Garrett will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew him. May he rest in peace and forever be remembered in our hearts.
