James Dawson

James (Jim) Russell Dawson, 82, of Kingsville went to be with the Lord on September 17, 2016. He was born on February 6, 1934, in Minden, Louisiana to Russell H. Dawson and Fairly Ruth Newsom. He married Betsy Ann Remmert on July 21, 1962.
Jim joined the United States Navy in 1952 and faithfully served his country for 30 years on active duty. He retired in 1982 as a Chief Petty Officer. He took part in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and served at various duty stations in Florida, California, Spain, Iceland, and Texas. He continued to serve an additional 15 years at Naval Air Station Kingsville as a government contractor, for a combined 45 years of service.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, and "Aggie" grandpa, with all three of his grandchildren attending Texas A&M University, College Station. Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betsy Dawson; son, Michael (Susan) Dawson of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter, Melissa (Bud) Windham, of Kingsville, Texas; three grandchildren, Chelsea Houston of Nolanville, Texas; Tyler Windham of Dallas, Texas; and Kaylie Windham of Kingsville, Texas; and three step-grandchildren, David Headley, Amanda Cupples, and Ryan Cupples of Corpus Christi, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara (Austin) Reid of Kerrville, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Ruth Dawson, and a sister, Ruth Ellen Dawson.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday, September 23, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Kingsville, with Pastor Jack Willoughby officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or South Texas Children's Home.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the nurses and staff at Kleberg County Nursing and Rehabilitation, and Angel Bright Hospice for their loving compassion and care during Jim's final stage of life.
The family is being served by Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
