Major Jackye W. Hayes USMC Retired, 78, a resident of Kingsville, Texas, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born July 16, 1935 in Bishop, Texas to Woodrow Hayes and Nadyne Guthrie Hayes. He was a Vietnam veteran in the U.S. Marine Corp., where he was an aviator earning more than 4,000 hours in flight time. He served as the commanding officer of VMA 169, a Cobra Helicopter Squadron at Camp Pendleton, California. Upon retirement from the Marine Corps after 22 12 years, he served as director of Kleberg County Family Guidance Services and as a licensed professional counselor until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his son, Casey W. Hayes parents, Woodrow and Nadyne Hayes.
Major Hayes is survived by his wife, Peggy Hayes of Kingsville children, Kirby James Hayes Rhula Mitchelltree, Corey N. Hayes Marion and Clinton Hayes Anneka Trayler grandchildren, Jacqueline Schramm Timothy, Cassandra Hayes, Chelsea Hayes, Sean Hayes and Peter Casey Hayes two greatgrandchildren, Rowen Schramm and Asher Davis one brother, Jim Hayes Lynn and two sisters, Joy Beth Whittington Wayne and Jana Sue Hayes.
A memorial service was held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Epiphany Episcopal Church, 206 North Third Street, Kingsville, with Rev. Richard E. Dunham officiating. At the conclusion of the memorial service, full military honors provided by the Veterans of Kleberg County Military Funeral Detail took place outside of the church.
