Imogene West Hester,90, of Riviera, Texas passed away on February 19, 2017. She was born to Roscoe and Annie L. West in East Texas near Percilla and the town of Slocum on September 14, 1926. Imogene spent her early childhood years with her beloved East Texas family in their pre-Depression Era farm and ranch community. At an early age, her parents moved to their farm in Riviera where she grew up, married, and raised her family.
Imogene worked as a young Mother and home maker, and later worked at the Riviera school cafeteria back when the meals were prepared "from scratch". Later on she worked at local restaurants and area ranches cooking good food. Despite her work schedule she always found time for family and friends, and helping others.
Imogene was preceded in death by her first husband, Edwin Alvin Mittag, her second husband, Jim Hester, her son, Michael D. Mittag, and her sister, Joyce Marceline Holzinger.
She is survived by her sons Gene Mittag (Kathleen Cage) of Bishop, Allen Mittag (Ruth Glenewinkel) of Riviera and Tim Mittag of Riviera, and her daughter Debbie Mittag-Skeels (Brian Skeels) of Austin; as well as eleven grandchildren, one step granddaughter, eight great grandchildren, one step great grandson, and many other beloved extended family members including cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Memories of her Texas Spirit of hard work, love, fun and dedication to family and friends along with great cooking -will be cherished forever. Finally, the family would like to thank Irma Cavazos, the late Lucinda Villarreal, the late Betty Rule, and Texas Visiting Nurses Kingsville Staff who will always be remembered for the loving care they gave to Imogene in her last years. And a special thanks to Imogene's step granddaughter, Stacy Thomas, for her compassionate medical guidance during Imogene's final days.
Visitation will be held at Turcotte Mortuary on Friday, February 24 from 4 P.M. until 6 P.M. Funeral services will be held at Ricardo Baptist Church on Saturday, February 25 at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Buddy Joyner officiating. Burial will follow at Riviera Cemetery.
