Howard A. Henderson, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, March 6, 2023. Howard was born in Laredo, Texas to Valeira O. Henderson and Otila Marquez Henderson on July 17, 1926, and was 96 years young. He was a loving husband, proud and devoted father, dedicated and loving son, and brother.
Howard graduated from Killen High School in 1945. Within months after graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served his tour during the close of World War II in the Philippines. After being honorably discharged from the military, he enrolled at Texas A&I University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and a master’s degree in Business Administration. While in Kingsville, Howard met Herminia (Minnie) Rangel while she was home on break from attending Pharmacy School at the University of Texas in Austin. The two married in 1952. Howard was employed as a coach and teacher at Riviera High School before being employed as a salesman and manager for Southwestern Drug Corporation, a Pharmaceutical Supply business. After retiring from Southwestern Drug Corporation, Howard returned to teaching at Premont High School for several more years before his full retirement.
Throughout his life, Howard enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Herminia (Minnie) Rangel Henderson; parents; sister, Ella Saldana; brother, Walter Henderson; and infant brother, Frank Henderson.
Among those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Debra Henderson (Ruben Carranza); son, Howard D. "Dino" Henderson; sisters, Ruth (Arturo) Martinez and Francis (Santos) Carrion; brother, Richard (Ambarina) Henderson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The family will receive condolences on Sunday, March 12, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 13, 2023, at St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church. A Rite of Committal and Interment with Military Honors will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to all staff members of Serenity & Grace Hospice Care of Corpus Christi for the professional, dedicated, and personal in-home care provided.
