Hildegard Jäger Lyie

Hildegard Jäger Lyie was born on September 3, 1942, in Unter-Turz, a German community in Czechoslovakia.  She passed away peacefully on Monday, October 18, 2021, at the age of 79 years in Houston, Texas after a courageous battle with cancer.  Her loving husband of 25 years, William “Bill” Lyie, was by her side.

Hildegard grew up in Wertheim, Germany, the youngest of 5 children, where she earned a college degree in elementary education.  After moving to Kingsville, Texas in 1966 and raising her family, she earned her Bachelor and Master’s degrees from Texas A&I University in Kingsville and continued her teaching career at St. Martin’s Elementary School in Kingsville and then Incarnate Word Academy in Corpus Christi for 17 years; she then retired. Hildegard and Bill were members of St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church where she often taught CCD and also actively participated and enjoyed serving meals to students at the Catholic Student Center at Texas A&M Kingsville.

Hildegard was preceded in death by her parents, Margit and Matias Jäger; her brother, Georg; her sister, Mariechen; and her grandson, Jonathan Michael Reyes.

She is survived by her husband, Bill; sisters, Margit (Gerhardt) and Olga (Helmuth); daughters, Carmen Cavazos Pratt (Reagan) and Christine Cavazos Mora (Rudy); stepson, John Lyie (Yashih); grandchildren, Robert, Lisa, Jeremiah, Christopher, Caleb, and Juliana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive condolences on Friday, October 22, 2021, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at St. Gertrude Catholic Church. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Chamberlain Cemetery.
