Harry Huebel, Jr.

Harry Russell Huebel, Jr. "Russ" of Kingsville, Texas passed away March 17, 2018. He was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Harry Russell Huebel Sr. and Margaret Ann Neal Huebel on March 13, 1943. He attended public schools in Cape Girardeau and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University. He earned a PhD in American Studies from Washington State University and taught history at Texas A&I University (later Texas A&M - Kingsville).
Russ was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children, Anne Huebel (Jules Gehrke) of Midland, Michigan and David Huebel (fiancée, Nicole Blair) of Austin, Texas; his brothers, Bruce of Bay City, Michigan and Randy of Cape Girardeau; and his grandchildren, Margaret and Elizabeth.
Russ's main interest revolved around sports, especially baseball and basketball. He once played on a traveling softball team and coached Little League baseball for many years as well as Pee Wee basketball. He also enjoyed reading crime novels, shooting pool and befriending calico cats.
Instead of services, visiting hours will be held Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Southeast Missouri University Foundation, 1 University Plaza, MS 7300, Cape Girardeau, Missouri 63701; attention: Harry Huebel Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
