Harrel Douglas Nix, age 54, a resident of Kingsville, Texas passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family. Douglas was born June 25, 1963 to Harrel D. and Mary Lou Nix. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his beautiful smile. Douglas loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed meeting new people. He had an amazing ability to remember names, phone numbers, zip codes and birthdays. At a very young age, Douglas made long distance phone calls without his parents' knowledge and his father denied the bill with the telephone company until he found out the calls were to Douglas's aunts Evelyn and Darlene! Douglas attended school in Kingsville and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He lived in group homes in Beeville and Kingsville and worked for the community health programs.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Marie Nix Brownlee; and nephew, Chance Brownlee. Douglas is survived by his parents, Harrel and Mary Lou Nix; in addition to many cousins, aunts and uncles.
So many caregivers helped with Douglas during his last few years. The family is very thankful for each one of them.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Mark Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Kingsville at Chamberlain Cemetery.
