Guadalupe "Lupe" Ochoa Lozano, a cherished wife, devoted mother, and beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends, on October 14, 2023. She was born on February 16, 1953, in Brownfield, Texas to the loving parents Gerardo and Estephena Ochoa. Her journey through life was filled with love and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of everyone she encountered.
In 1970, Guadalupe relocated to Kingsville, Texas where she began working at Kelly's BBQ. It was during this time that she crossed paths with the love of her life, Jose Manuel Lozano. Their connection was instant and undeniable, leading them to embark on a beautiful journey together. On September 29, 1973, they joyously exchanged vows and began building a life filled with love and happiness.
Guadalupe had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and a passion for learning; she nurtured her love for literature by diving deep into books and immersing herself in captivating stories. Her sharp mind found joy in solving crossword puzzles that challenged her intellect. Additionally, Guadalupe had a knack for scratching lottery tickets in moments of excitement and anticipation. One of her favorite pastimes was venturing out to play maquinitas - the slot machines that brought smiles to her face as she tried her luck. Her dedication for supporting local sports extended to cheering on the Lady Brahma Softball team during their exhilarating games; her enthusiastic presence in the stands created an atmosphere of unwavering support that uplifted the spirits of the players.
Guadalupe dedicated herself wholeheartedly to serving her community as an active member of St. Martin Catholic Church. She found solace in her faith and embodied its teachings through her actions and involvement with the St. Martin Altar Society, and Caritas. Guadalupe's compassionate nature further manifested in her commitment to social causes, as she selflessly volunteered at the Weavers of Love Soup Kitchen.
Throughout her life's journey, Guadalupe O. Lozano exemplified strength, kindness, and resilience. She was an inspiring figure to all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her gentle soul find eternal peace and may her memory be a guiding light for generations to come.
Guadalupe is preceded in death by her wonderful husband of 50 years, Jose Manuel Lozano; her beloved baby, Jose Manuel Lozano Jr.; and sister, Veronica B. Lucero.
Among those left to cherish her memory are her son, Jose Manuel (Michelle) Lozano Jr.; daughter, Estefana (Michael) Mechell; sister-in-law, Carmen (Ramiro) Utley; beautiful granddaughters whom she adored, Bianca Nicole Mechell, Veronica Lynn Mechell, and Abigail Renee Mechell; grandson, Michael Mechell Jr,; beloved fur babies, Brownie, Uno, Bonita, Dulce, Chuy and Chico; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive condolences on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary in Kingsville, Texas; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Final viewing will take place on Friday, October 20, 2023, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, with a holy rosary recited at 9:00 a.m.; followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. A rite of committal and interment will follow at Santa Gertrudis Cemetery.
