Guadalupe "Lupita" V. Guerra, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2023. Lupita was born on January 8, 1957, in Falfurrias, Texas. She was the daughter of Abelardo "Lalo" Vela Sr and Maria Eloisa "Nana" Vela. Her life was filled with many cherished memories that will be treasured by those who knew her.
After graduating from Riviera Kaufer High School, Lupita embarked on a career that touched the lives of many, initially working at Dairy Queen in Riviera and Falfurrias before joining Riviera ISD. Over time, Lupita's unwavering commitment led her to become the Food Service Director for the district. Her dedication spanned an impressive 34 years until her well-deserved retirement in 2020. Retirement didn't slow Lupita down; she had a deep desire to remain active and engaged within her community. She found joy working at Jalisco in Riviera and later at Freddy's Dinner in Ricardo.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lupita cherished moments filled with laughter and love alongside her beloved husband of 48 years, Charlie Guerra Sr. Dancing was one of their favorite shared passions throughout their many years together. Lupita had an ear for music and found solace in listening to her favorite song, "Linda Morenita" by Jesse Turner. Whenever the Cowboy games aired on television, you could find Lupita passionately cheering and even shouting at the screen. She will be remembered fondly for her saying of "I love you CHINGOS!" She was very outspoken, energic, honest, loving, and had an unbreakable faith in God. Lupita was known to give a lot of her time to Our Lady of Good Counsel, where she volunteered for 9 years for CCD. She was also part of the Alter Society and was a Eucharistic Minster.
One of Lupita's greatest joys came from providing love, care, and advice to countless students and friends who considered her a guiding light in their lives. Her words of wisdom and compassionate nature will be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known her.
Lupita is preceded in death by her parents Abelardo “Lalo” Vela Sr and Maria Eloisa “Nana” Vela, and two brothers Eduardo Vela and Martin Vela.
Lupita will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her surviving family members. She is survived by her devoted husband, Charlie Guerra Sr., who stood by her side for nearly five decades. Lupita's presence will forever live on through her daughter Jessica Guerra and her three sons: Charlie Guerra Jr. (Diana), Orlando Guerra (Claudia), and James "JP" Bueno (Tessa); six adoring grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life: Christopher Guerra, Olivia Ramos, Karina Guerra, Orlando Guerra II, Tatiana Bueno, and Taelor Bueno; her great granddaughter, Lyn'Elli Guerra; her sisters Melinda Vela (Isreal), Merida Herrera, Barbara Gean Davila (Joseph Lopez), and Rose Marie Morales (Roberto); and her brothers Abelardo "Mocho" Vela Jr (Eliza), Tepo Vela (Betty), and Juan Vela (Letty). There are countless nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who were touched deeply by Lupita's kind heart and warm spirit. Their lives have been forever enriched by her presence.
To honor the remarkable life of Lupita V. Guerra, visitation services will be held on December 8, 2023, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Kingsville, Texas. The visitation will take place from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with the holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM, allowing family and friends to pay their respects and celebrate Lupita's life. A mass of christian burial will be held at 10:00 AM, followed by the interment at Riviera Cemetery in Riviera, Texas, at 11:15 AM. Pallbearers will be Rocky Dominguez Jr., Manuel Garcia, Jacob Moya, Gabriel Castillo, Quarto Guevara, Raul Falcon, James Rodriquez, and Landon Longoria, with Kris Campos as honorary pallbearer. The family requests that no pictures are taken, and that no shirts with pictures of Lupita be worn to any services being held.
In this time of mourning, let us remember Lupita for her vibrant spirit and unwavering love. She has left an indelible mark on our hearts and will forever be remembered as a beacon of strength, kindness, and generosity. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
