Gerald Gibson

Gerald Lewis "Hoot" Gibson entered Heavenly life on November 10, 2018. Born January 13, 1934 in Kingsville, Texas. The family and community has lost a steadfast member and friend. Inspired by his beloved grandfather, Henry Walton, a foreman for the O'Conner Ranch in Goliad, Texas, Hoot, as a boy was immersed in the world of livestock and agriculture, farming and 'cattling' all his life. As a young man, he became a skilled brick mason and fireplace specialist, installing brick art in many homes in Kleberg county and beyond. After decades of country living, he decided to move into the city of Kingsville last year. The realtor showed him a beautiful home. Hoot declared "I laid the brick on this home in the sixties." Sold! The courses are still perfectly straight, as the day he set them. A hard worker, mover and shaker all his life. He was a realtor, contractor, rancher, backhoe operator, among other things. One busy man. His passions - deer hunting, dancing, listening to music. He insisted his children learn to play music. "Thank you, Daddy". Humor was his love as well - he was a dedicated prankster. His ticklish laughter delighted all. Hoot is survived by his devoted wife Yvonne (Vonnie) Korhonen Gibson of Kingsville, daughters Laurie and Sally Gibson of Bandera, Texas, Deanna Gibson Kedzie (Jay) of The Woodlands, Texas, step-daughter Diana Korhonen Shepard (Mark) of Castile, New York, grandchildren Robin Butler Shorter (Jeremy), of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Becky Butler Odell of Bandera, Texas, Drew Kedzie (Maureen), of Midland, Texas, Erin Kedzie Fulton (David) of Austin, Texas. Great-grandchildren Mike and Emily Swanson of Ardmore, Oklahoma. Beloved brother-in-law, Cecil Thomas Loter (Francey) of Mesa, Arizona. When Hoot married Vonnie Korhonen in 2011, a big family of Korhonens joined the family including nine step-grandchildren, and ten step-great-grandchildren, of Castile, New York, and Houston, Texas. Mr. Gibson is predeceased by his wife of fifty years, Jo Louise Loter Gibson, his parents Leonard Everett Gibson and Lizzie Lee Walton Gibson Craighead, son Scott Walton Gibson, step-father John C. Craighead, stepson Michael Korhonen, and life-long best friend Bill Coleman. He leaves behind his Saturday morning Ricardo coffee club which he so enjoyed, and a host of friends.
A celebration of Hoot's life will be held November 29 at Turcotte Mortuary in Kingsville, with visitation from 5-6 pm, followed by service 6-8 pm. Adios Daddy, Friend, Amigo, 'til we meet again.
