George C. Jones Sr., age 92, passed from this life to the next on June 5, 2015. George's family heritage had strong roots in the Kingsville community. He was born November 28, 1922 and raised in Kingsville. After serving in the Air Force during World War II, he returned back home and graduated from the Texas College of Arts & Industries in 1955 with a BS in General Engineering. For the majority of his adult years, he managed and owned various businesses; including a gas station, hotel, miniature golf course, and a service station construction and pump company that serviced a large portion of south Texas. Once retired, he enjoyed volunteering at the Epiphany Episcopal Church, traveling with his family, dancing, and telling a good story to his friends.
George was preceded in death by his loving parents, David and Margaret Jones and his siblings; David, Margaret, and Sarah. He is survived by his son, George Jr. and his wife, Robbie and grandson, Aidan; step-daughter and step-son, D'Ann and Guy Davis; his companion, Vicki Nunnery; and many other loving relatives.
Visitation will take place Monday, June 8 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at the Epiphany Episcopal Church, 206 N. 3rd St, on Tuesday, June 9 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Kingsville at Chamberlain Cemetery with military honors.
Friends and family are welcome to assemble at George Sr.'s home in Kingsville, 527 E. Shelton, after burial services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or to the Texas A&M University - Kingsville, George C. Jones Engineering Scholarship Fund, Kleberg Bank, 100 Kleberg Avenue, Kingsville, TX, 78363.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
