Evelyn E. Brown

Evelyn Elaine (Elsik) Brown, 94, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother was called to her eternal resting place on November 20, 2024. Evelyn was born on January 16, 1930, in Sarita, Texas to Louis and Lillie Elsik. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Evelyn graduated from King High School in 1947 and always talked about her love of music, being in the choir and dancing. She grew up listening to her dad play polka music on his accordion. She married W.B. Brown, Jr on August 22, 1947, shortly after his return from serving in the Marines. They had known each other as kids and his sister, Joyce Ketcham was her best friend.

Evelyn and W.B. shared more than just a marriage, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They worked side-by-side in business from farming days, operating Brown’s Meat Market in Kingsville, ranching and raising cattle, a state-of-the art hog business and a successful feed business that serviced the community and beyond. Mom had a sign hanging in their office that said, “behind every successful man, there is a strong woman” and strong and resilient she was.

While her children were in school, she found herself as a 4-H Leader, a seamstress for twirling and rodeo queen outfits, cooked up the best candied apples for concession stands while finding time to bake, garden, quilt and go down the rodeo trail with her kids. She was also a supporter of the Kleberg-Kenedy County Jr. Livestock Show for many years.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren sharing cherished family traditions. Her famous cooking was enjoyed not just by family, but friends as well. She taught and passed down some of her wonderful “cooking” secrets and recipes to many. You could stop by and often smell fresh baked cookies and a pot of coffee.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, W.B. Brown, Jr, parents and a brother, Louie Elsik, sister-in-law, Phyllis Elsik, W.B.’s brother-in-law, Ralph Ketcham and grandson, Cody Lee Clarke.

She is survived by her children: son, Randy Brown (Alison), daughters Sharon Brown, Marsha Clarke (Perry) and Dianne Brown and one brother Dewey Elsik. Also, grandchildren: Monte Brown (Kristy), Kristen Tinsley (Willis), Melissa Sturges, Jennifer Sturges; Tana Pena (Ruben), Heston Clarke, Cash Clarke; L.B. Pearson (Anna), Dakota Pearson (Morgan). Her beautiful great-grandchildren: Brandt and Baylen Tinsley; Logan, Presley and Braeden Brown; Madison, Miabella, Miranda Perales, Lucas and Sophia Pena; Truitt and Kelly Pearson and Ryker and Leighton Pearson and a special person in her life, Manny Baez.

Special gratitude for the love, compassion, and care for my mom from Janie Guajardo, Donna Quesada, Sarah Marquis and Elara Hospice Care.
