Ethel May Sweeten Loden, age 72, a resident of Katy, Texas and former longtime resident of Kingsville, Texas passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at her residence. She was born May 27, 1944 to Dee B Sweeten Sr. and Ethel Inez Hughes Sweeten. Ethel was born in Edinburg, Texas where she attended Edinburg High School. Ethel and her husband Kenneth owned and operated a successful lawnmower sales and service business in Kingsville for 25 years. Ethel attended University Baptist Church where she was active in many church functions and activities including Vacation Bible School. Family and friends were Ethel's passion and delight. She was married to the love of her life, Kenneth Lynn Loden for 45 years. Kingsville and Ricardo, Texas was their hometown until they relocated to Katy in 2002 in order to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Ethel had a talent for baking and decorating beautiful cakes and making flower arrangements for special occasions. She loved to sew and made numerous dresses and outfits throughout the years for weddings and other special events. Ethel was very clever at figuring things out on her own and had keen practical common sense. She will be remembered for her deep passion and concern for others, her smile and generosity and her sense of humor all the way to the end.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth Lynn Loden; two sons, Ronald Lynn Loden and Daniel Neal Loden; her grandson, Derrick Ross Kizer; one brother, Dee B Sweeten Jr; and a sister, Ida Sweeten Kelley; and numerous other family members.
Ethel is survived by her daughters, Karen Elaine Loden Kizer and husband Brian and Cheryl Ann Loden, both of Katy; four grandchildren, Kimberly Lanae Kizer, Travis Erin Kizer, Sarah Nichole Kizer and Kathryn Lynn Loden, all of Katy. She also leaves behind five sisters, one brother and numerous loving relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p .m. Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Chris Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Kingsville at Resthaven Cemetery.
